Dare To Thrive During Your Postpartum

Melbourne Postpartum Services nourish parents with premium level care, so that you can LOVE not just your baby, but also your postnatal experience.

Are you a tired, overwhelmed parent of a brand-new baby?

Do you need some genuine care and guidance to get you through this postnatal period?

I get it, I have been there too.

Those newborn days can be super tough,

Between sleep deprivation like you have never known, the hours of crying, and the giant task of figuring out breastfeeding ( if that’s what you’re choosing), you are both mentally and physically exhausted.

I bet your pregnancy care team did a great job of preparing you for birth and hopefully provided you with some information about what to expect from a newborn; but even so

Many, many parents find themselves completely overwhelmed in those first few weeks and can often start to wonder “What have I gotten myself into!?”

In the not-too-distant past, after a mother gave birth, it was not uncommon for a swam of family and friends to descend with genuine care and support. The birth of a new baby was viewed as the start of a sacred time that should be protected and supported. A new mother could have literally rested in bed for the first 30 days or more because the rest of the family had her back, they would ‘fill her cup’ as she poured herself into her new baby and healing. But has this been your experience? It hasn’t been for many of the parents we speak to.

Have your visitors been providing postpartum care or have you been expected to host and get on with life as normal?

Not everyone has a truly supportive network that they can deeply rely on, or friends who understand how intense the newborn period is. Indeed, you yourself may not have realised this before the birth of your little bundle, you may never even have met a newborn baby before.

Many people talk about the love and the joy of parenthood, and most parents eagerly await the birth of their newest family member, dreaming excitedly about their family’s future.

But for many, unfortunately, the experience of bringing their baby home was, let’s say, anti-climactic.

Of course, I bet you love your new baby! But this has been harder than you expected. The support you received from friends and family just hasn’t been cutting it (if you even had some), and there are some very real hurdles for which you were not prepared. Throw in all the conflicting advice, and the never-ending rabbit hole of google searching for answers, and I am not surprised that every parent isn’t crumbling under the weight of it all.

Because the truth is a newborn is different from an older baby. It’s a VERY unique period of parenting.

In short, the care that these new squishy babies require can be quite intense and many parents are being asked to learn multiple skills for the first time, without having interacted with a newborn before, while sleep-deprived and healing from birth. That’s a huge expectation!

There is no judgment here if you are finding it hard, because who wouldn’t?!

BUT although it is going to be hard - it doesn’t have to be overwhelmingly so!

You honestly don’t have to feel like the life is draining from your body and you are never going to go back to feeling like yourself again. There is a way to enjoy your postpartum and develop a richer, fuller attachment with your baby. Some parents with our help, even express they feel they are finally thriving!

We want to show you a way out of the overwhelm too.

Although many parents find this time in their lives incredibly tough, it doesn’t have to be that way!

It is possible to go from overwhelmed and exhausted to confident and truly enjoying your postpartum.

So stop for a moment and ask yourself -

  • Would you like to wake up in the morning and look over at your baby with overflowing love AND confidence that you can adequately face whatever the day might hold?

  • Would you like to have faith in yourself that when your newborn starts to fuss, you know how to respond that will help them calm without the hours of crying?

  • Or maybe you would like to pick up your newborn and settle them on your breast in a way that helps them feed deeply (and not leave you feeling so sore)?

And what is this worth to you?

When people ask us what we do – it is this and more! Although we can’t guarantee that you will never have a tough day again, our unique service is all about supporting parents so that they can have the postnatal period they envisioned, but currently feels so far out of reach.

Our service is quite unique, in fact, there is no other group of professionals in Melbourne who do what we do. We are more than a doula or a lactation professional, we are like baby whisperers.

We are expert baby cry/fuss problem-solvers who instead of keeping our secrets and tricks to ourselves, aim to do ourselves out of a job by sharing them with the parents we support. Yes, we can be your postpartum doula, or your breastfeeding counsellor, but we can also be so much more.

So, whether you are yet to give birth and are working on your postpartum plan (oh, by the way, click here for some free help with that), or you’re already in the thick of it and could really do with some support, answers, and pampering, you are in the right place.

We have helped many parents go from exhausted and overwhelmed to in control and confident, and there is no reason why we can’t help you and your family too.

The Birth of Personalized Postpartum Support

Any parent can tell you that those early newborn days can be tough. Maybe you’re living through it at this very moment. There are many reasons for the struggle, but recently more and more people are finding it overly challenging, not just tiring.

But why?

Again, there are multiple factors at play, but a key consideration includes how very isolated many families have become. Never before have so many parents lived so geographically removed from their extended families. Or, even if they do live close-by, parents are told to be extremely careful about who they let into their homes because of the global pandemic.

Many people do have friends and family come by or cook a meal, but unfortunately the expectation to entertain and not be deeply supported themselves can be all to real.

What should be a time to rest, recuperate and fall in love with your new little family member has become anticlimactic for many, and even traumatic for others.

Our Co-Founders, like many other allied health professionals, have become increasingly concerned for the growing number of parents facing the postpartum period without real support and as a consequence struggling much more then they need to. To make matters worse, while postpartum struggles are on the rise, many of the available supports have experienced funding cuts, moved online or are just not intensive enough. Wait-lists are long and help is often offered after a substantial wait.

Melbourne Postpartum Services was born out of the desire to raise the bar and deliver personalized support to those parents who are not prepared to just grit their teeth and wish the postpartum period away. We help parents dare to actually love and truly enjoy their postpartum journey.
