Create the PERFECT Postpartum Plan

Don’t leave it up to chance! Give thought to those first few weeks and months after birth so they can run smoothly and with more JOY.

Don’t make the same mistake I did. Preparing for your Postpartum is just as important as preparing for your birth

I have been there, eagerly awaiting my first baby to arrive while also scared out of my wits about birth. So naturally, much of my energy and planning went into preparing for the birth. I had assumed, because I loved babies and children, and because I had my family and friends nearby, that I would fall naturally into that love bubble described by many and seen on TV. I did not plan for my postpartum, not truly. I planned to have some meals delivered, I planned to share the care as much as I could with my husband while also being a breastfeeding mother. But I didn’t know how to truly plan, because, like many people, I had no idea what was coming my way.

I don’t say this to be a negative nelly, I wouldn’t go back and choose not to have my babies. There are sooooo many things I love about my babies and life with them. BUT a little deeper planning, some intentional conversations with my husband, some pre-learning about postnatal anxiety and mood disorders, would have gone a long way towards us having a much better postpartum period together.

So, what can be done? One goal I have in my work, in my life actually, is to normalise the postpartum planning. For it to be talked about as easily as a woman discusses her birth plan. And not because people need to fear the postpartum period, but because they are choosing, no, DARING to actually love and truly enjoy their postpartum journey.
